Leonardo da Vinci Program - Our work practice in Portugal

Henna, Mervi, Fátima Cardoso and two portuguese colleagues

Our school Hyria Education Limited will arrange international work practice for the students that are training to Vocational Qualification (in our case in Business and Administration). This international work practice project is called Leonardo da Vinci Program. Practice will take two months or one month. This program gives a chance to see other countries and cultures.
We, Mervi and Henna, wanted to come to Portugal because the weather is nice and our teacher Päivi Maunula said that the people are so kind and friendly there.
We arrived in Portugal on the 15th of March. The teacher Gabriela Machado, who is our mediator in Portugal, was waiting for us at the airport, showed us our apartment in Almada and after, on the first day, we went to see our working place. It was an accounting office called Cabana & Gaio, Lda. All the employies seemed nice and friendly. We also met teacher Fátima Cardoso who is the project coordinator at Anselmo de Andrade School.
In the office our job was organize invoices and other papers and stock different documents. Some days we printed several official documents like income statements. Every week we went to work from Monday to Friday. The only problem was that we only speak a bit of Portuguese but the colleagues at work are very kind and teach us some words and we can also understand together in English. At the weekends we had free time.
On spare time we visited many beautiful places, for example “Capuchos Monastery”, the beach Costa da Caparica and at the weekends we went to Lisbon several times to visit the beautiful city
Sometimes after work we walked to Almada Forum to do some shopping.
At Easter we visited Arrabida and Sesimbra and several monuments and beaches, with some friends we met in Almada. We liked that so much. We went by bus to the beach several times, because the weather was so beautiful and warm.
Our trip to Portugal was a great experience. We got to know about different culture and places. Kissing on cheeks was weird at first but we got used to it. We only say hello or shake hands in Finland. We definitely will come again to Portugal. We hope that all students would have this same opportunity to see foreign countries and cultures.
