Every year, it is usual for the Arts class of Anselmo
de Andrade to go on a field trip to the city of Porto, where we get the chance
of being showed some interesting pieces of art to our Comenius Assistant, this
time we took István Tóth from Hungary.
Our group visited the Music House (Casa da Música),
where we learned that not only does it play classical and contemporary music, but
it also turns into a disco at night. The architect Rem Koolhaas, (who won the
most prestigious award for architecture, the Pritzker Prize), gave it a unique design, which
makes it one of the best attractions the city has to offer.
Next, we went to Serralves Foundation (Fundação de Serralves), where we had the opportunity
to see an exhibition of Julião Sarmento, one of the most well known Portuguese artists
of our generation. He is also as one of the most complete artists in Portugal,
ranging from photography, to painting, and also video-art. The architect Álvaro
Siza, gave the museum an austere look and feel, which goes well with the
gardens of Serralves (Jardins de Serralves), but unfortunately, we didn’t get
to see them.
Overall, it was a nice trip, the only downfall was that our tour guides
made the trip very quickly, but on the bright side, our group had the chance of
seeing some amazing buildings, an interesting exhibition, and parts of the city
itself.
